Jeju Family Banquet and Gochang Yongdanggi Play Selected as Future Intangible Heritage
National Heritage Administration to Support 15 Projects Next Year
Up to 200 Million Won Annually and a Maximum of Three Years to Establish Transmission Foundations
The National Heritage Administration announced on September 17 that it has selected "Jeju Family Banquet and Food Culture" and "Gochang Mujang Eupseong Chilgeori Dangsang Yongdanggi Play" as recipients of next year's "Future Intangible Heritage Discovery and Fostering Project" support.
These are intangible heritages that have been passed down in each region but have not yet been officially designated, and they will have the opportunity to be recognized as national or provincial intangible cultural assets. Up to 200 million won per year will be provided to cover the costs of research, study, and establishing the foundation for transmission. If the results are recognized, the support period can be extended up to three years.
A total of 63 applications were submitted for the public contest, and 15 projects were selected through expert review. The main initiatives chosen include: ▲ "Jeju Family Banquet and Food Culture," which documents traditional weddings and food culture; ▲ "Gochang Mujang Eupseong Chilgeori Dangsang Yongdanggi Play," a folk game of the Mujang Eupseong community; ▲ "Namwon Sajikdanje," a Confucian ritual that continued even during the Japanese colonial period; ▲ "Garak Ogwangdae," a mask dance from the Busan area; and ▲ "Jinju Hwaban," which combines rituals and food culture.
