Shaded Rest Area and Cooling Fog System Installed at Yejeugo-eul Playground

Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province was selected for the "Climate Crisis Vulnerable Group Support Project," organized by the Ministry of Environment, and has installed shaded rest areas and a cooling fog system at the Yejeugo-eul Playground in Yeonghae-myeon.

The Climate Crisis Vulnerable Group Support Project aims to protect socially disadvantaged groups-such as low-income households, the elderly, and outdoor workers-who are vulnerable to climate change impacts like heat waves and cold spells. The project promotes the creation of rest areas, application of heat-blocking paint, and support for eco-friendly facilities.

With this selection, Yeongdeok County designated the Yejeugo-eul Playground-an area concentrated with Yeonghae Hyanggyo, an elementary school, and daycare centers-as the project site, creating a climate crisis adaptation space that residents can easily access in their daily lives.

The space now features newly installed pergola rest areas and a cooling fog system, and trees have been planted to absorb urban heat. The pergola rest area has become a safe and comfortable spot for seniors, while the cooling fog system lowers the perceived temperature by spraying fine water particles, allowing children to play comfortably even in hot weather.

The county expects this project to achieve high satisfaction among residents and to establish itself as a practical, community-based climate crisis adaptation space.

County Governor Kim Kwangyeol stated, "It seems that climate crisis adaptation spaces that help buffer the increasingly severe abnormal weather have naturally blended into residents' daily lives," adding, "We will continue to promote various initiatives to protect the health and safety of county residents and improve quality of life in response to the changing environment."
