Russia Denies Evidence of Drone Incursion into Romanian Airspace, Claims "Ukrainian Provocation"
The Russian government has dismissed the Romanian government's claim that a Russian drone violated Romanian airspace as "groundless."
According to RIA Novosti on September 15 (local time), the Russian Embassy in Romania stated on Telegram, "In the absence of objective verification regarding which country the drone belongs to, the Romanian side's protest is dismissed as absurd and unfounded."
The Romanian Ministry of Defense stated on September 13 that a Russian drone had violated Romanian airspace. On September 14, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Vladimir Lipaev, the Russian ambassador to Romania, to lodge a protest.
The Russian Embassy pointed out that Ambassador Lipaev was unable to provide a convincing answer to questions regarding the identification of the drone that allegedly violated Romanian airspace during his conversation with the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
