Jeonnam Hampyeong County announced on September 14 that it has been finally selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "2026 Disaster Risk Area Maintenance Project" and secured a total project budget of 50.6 billion won.
The county's comprehensive maintenance project for the Sonbul Daejeon District flood-prone area (46.8 billion won) and the Hampyeong-eup Suho District steep slope collapse risk area maintenance project (3.8 billion won) were both selected for next year's disaster risk area maintenance project.
By investing a total of 50.6 billion won, the county plans to fundamentally resolve recurring flood damage caused by heavy rainfall and the risk of steep slope collapses, thereby protecting the lives and property of its residents.
The Daejeon District in Sonbul-myeon is a low-lying area that has suffered repeated flooding due to poor drainage during heavy rainfall. Over the next four years, the county will invest 46.8 billion won to improve three small streams (6.68 km), one reservoir, and 25 weirs and drop structures, thereby establishing a robust local safety network.
The Suho District in Hampyeong-eup has frequently experienced soil runoff damage due to slope erosion along the roadside of Gonjae-ro. The county will invest 3.8 billion won over two years to reinforce a 400-meter section of the steep slope, aiming to prevent collapse risks in advance and ensure the safety of local residents.
County Governor Lee Sangik stated, "It is our greatest responsibility to proactively respond to the heavy rainfall that occurs every year due to climate change and to protect the lives and property of our residents. Through this maintenance project, we will create a safer Hampyeong and provide a living environment where residents can feel secure."
