The Yangju branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association emphasized that, by gathering opinions from local seniors through the petition campaign, the shortage of cremation facilities is an urgent issue that can no longer be postponed as Yangju enters a super-aged society. The association also highlighted the significance of the older generation directly expressing their support amid changing funeral customs.
The city plans to use the delivery of this petition as an opportunity to gather balanced opinions from civil society and actively explain the necessity of building a comprehensive funeral facility.
An official from Yangju City stated, "The increase in cremation demand due to super-aging and the difficulty of maintaining three-day funeral rites are becoming a reality. We will promote this project in a way that fosters coexistence with the local community by expanding resident support programs and convenience facilities."
