Various Agendas to Be Discussed at Monthly Forums (1-2 Times per Month)
Establishing the 'AI Response Job Policy Roadmap'
The government has organized a forum bringing together the public and private sectors to explore the direction of mid- to long-term employment and labor policies in response to changes in the labor market brought about by the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The government plans to introduce a tentative 'AI Response Job Policy Roadmap' based on discussions from the multiple forums to be held in the future.
On September 12, 2025, Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Younghoon held the inaugural session and first meeting of the 'AI Industrial Transformation and Jobs' forum at Post Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul. The forum was convened to analyze the impact of AI technology development on the labor market using real-world case studies. As the advancement of AI technology and the expansion of AI services are expected to bring changes to industrial structures and employment types, the forum also aims to examine the direction of mid- to long-term employment and labor policies in response.
The first meeting was attended not only by Minister Kim and officials from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, but also by forum members and presenters, including Professor Cho Sungjun of Seoul National University (chair). Kim Yucheol, Head of Strategy at LG AI Research Institute, and Kim Deukjoong, Vice President of the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, gave presentations on 'The Current State of AI Technology Development and Its Impact on the Labor Market' and 'Government Policies for Responding to AI Transformation.' Kim Yucheol emphasized that redefining job roles and retraining in line with the AI era is an urgent and important issue. This was followed by an open discussion among the forum members.
The forum is scheduled to be held one to two times per month until the end of the year. During this period, the agenda will include: ▲Analysis of cases where companies and administrative bodies utilize AI ▲Legal issues in talent development and human resources management in response to AI transformation ▲Improvement of social safety nets and employment and labor services leveraging AI. The Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to introduce the tentative 'AI Response Job Policy Roadmap' based on these discussions. A ministry official stated,"We will develop the roadmap not only based on forum discussions but also by including research and field surveys."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to further strengthen technology-focused vocational training to nurture practical AI talent. Minister Kim stated, "Through this platform for collective wisdom, we will strengthen vocational training to minimize potential employment shocks that may arise from technological advancement and help workers adapt to the new technological environment. We will also seek ways to ensure that everyone can enjoy a fair and safe working environment through AI-based employment and labor services."
