By utilizing thousands of satellites, it enables internet access anywhere in the world. Its strength lies in providing stable connectivity even in maritime and mountainous areas where installing traditional fiber-optic cables or base stations is difficult.
HD Hyundai plans to build a Starlink-based communication network inside ships under construction to create a smart work environment and strengthen worker safety through rapid response to unexpected situations and risk management. The company will also expand remote sea trials to address inefficiencies in maritime communication shadow zones. It expects to enable real-time transmission and analysis of engine conditions and operational data, allowing for immediate responses. As a result, HD Hyundai explained that it will be able to reduce sea trial delays and ensure timely delivery.
Suh Youngsoo, CEO of KT SAT, said, "We are pleased to support HD Hyundai’s digital innovation through this collaboration," adding, "We will continue to do our best to drive the digital transformation of the shipbuilding and marine industries." Lee Taejin, Executive Vice President of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, emphasized, "The introduction of Starlink will greatly enhance work safety and delivery reliability," and added, "We will lead the global shipbuilding industry with differentiated technological capabilities."
