Full Property Tax Exemption for This Year and Next Year
Dongjak District in Seoul (Mayor Park Ilha) will become the first in the nation to introduce a full exemption of property tax (principal tax) for households raising multiple children.
The district has established this policy to ease the financial burden on families with multiple children and to create a more child-friendly environment. The revised ordinance, "Seoul Special City Dongjak District Tax Reduction Ordinance," will take effect on September 18, the date of its promulgation this month.
The exemption applies to households that, as of the tax assessment date (June 1), are registered residents of Dongjak District, are raising three or more minor children, and own a single home per household with a government-assessed value of 900 million won or less. These households will receive a full property tax exemption for two years, from this year through next year. For households that have already paid property tax this year, the refund process will be carried out in October.
The district estimates that this policy will provide tax benefits totaling approximately 144 million won to local families with multiple children. In addition to improving the environment for raising multiple children, this measure is also expected to have a positive impact on population policy.
