Hanwha Aerospace Partners with BAE to Strengthen Cheonmu's Electronic Warfare Capabilities
Equipped with High-Performance Anti-Jamming GPS
Enhancing NATO Compatibility to Target Global Markets
Hanwha Aerospace is strengthening the electronic warfare capabilities of its Cheonmu multiple launch rocket system through collaboration with the UK defense company BAE Systems. By partnering with this global defense firm, Hanwha Aerospace aims to actively target overseas markets while also contributing to the expansion of security cooperation between South Korea and the United Kingdom.
On September 11, Hanwha Aerospace announced that it had signed a technical cooperation agreement with BAE Systems for the integration of guided missiles for Cheonmu and high-performance anti-jamming satellite navigation (GPS) systems. Anti-jamming technology, which blocks "jamming" attacks that disrupt wireless signals with powerful radio waves, is considered a key factor in determining the outcome of modern warfare.
Under this agreement, Hanwha Aerospace will equip Cheonmu guided missiles with BAE's military GPS, which features next-generation anti-jamming capabilities. BAE's GPS and anti-jamming technology have already demonstrated operational performance in member countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
The two companies have continued their partnership, including a modular charge system (MCS) supply contract worth approximately 180 billion won in 2023. With this latest collaboration, they plan to expand their cooperation into advanced technologies in the field of electronic warfare.
Luke Bishop, Director of Navigation and Sensor Systems at BAE Systems, stated, "Through our partnership with Hanwha Aerospace, we will ensure that Cheonmu can accomplish its missions in any battlefield environment."
