These three ordinances are significant in that they all address safety issues directly impacting the daily lives of provincial residents.
The "Gangwon Provincial Road Tunnel Safety Ordinance" includes measures to strengthen the safety environment inside tunnels, such as regular safety inspections, installation of accident prevention facilities, and the establishment of accident management systems.
The "Gangwon Provincial Pedestrian Safety Assistant Operation Ordinance" mandates the deployment of pedestrian safety assistants to ensure pedestrian safety whenever temporary walkways are installed due to construction work.
Additionally, the "Gangwon Provincial Ordinance on the Installation and Management of Lighting Facilities for Pedestrian Safety at Crosswalks" stipulates the priority installation and management of lighting facilities at crosswalks near schools or in areas with a high risk of traffic accidents, thereby further enhancing the safety of pedestrians, especially children and vulnerable road users.
Furthermore, in March, Assemblyman Lee pointed out the issue of poor road restoration after excavation during a provincial government inquiry. In response, the Gangwon Provincial Road Management Office is currently preparing the "Gangwon Provincial Road Excavation and Restoration Management Operation Regulations," aiming for implementation within this year.
These regulations are expected to prevent safety accidents and inconveniences caused by substandard restoration after road excavation and to create a pleasant and safe road environment through systematic road management.
