GH Hires Five Individuals with Severe Disabilities in First "Customized Recruitment" of the Year...Remote Work Enabled
Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH) has newly hired five individuals with severe disabilities through a "customized empathy recruitment" process.
This recruitment process is notable for designing customized work arrangements and environments for employees with severe disabilities who have difficulty commuting, as well as diversifying the range of job duties.
All of the hired interns will work remotely from home. Their main responsibilities include online content quality management, collecting and organizing cases related to government policies and relevant agencies, and producing design materials. Over the next seven months, they will support the work of various departments at GH.
Taking into account the mobility challenges faced by people with disabilities, GH replaced traditional in-person interviews with online video interviews. Applicants were able to participate from home using their own assistive devices, and for those with communication difficulties, GH collaborated with the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities to provide sign language interpretation services.
In particular, GH provided every applicant with an "individual competency analysis report" regardless of the interview outcome. The report consists of feedback on each applicant's strengths and weaknesses, analyzed by an independent competency interview expert, and is expected to help applicants make practical improvements to their job-seeking skills.
In line with the remote work nature of this internship, GH also introduced a new online attendance management system using a cloud-based mobile application. This system allows for systematic management of not only attendance records but also work performance.
Lee Jongseon, Acting President of GH, stated, "This internship for individuals with severe disabilities goes beyond simple recruitment and presents a direction for empathy-based hiring that public institutions should pursue," adding, "We will continue to develop inclusive job models where anyone can work, thereby fulfilling our social responsibilities as a public corporation."

Meanwhile, since 2023, GH has operated an "inclusive internship" program to support the social entry of vulnerable groups, including middle-aged individuals and people with disabilities. Over the past three years, GH has hired a total of 78 interns, including 73 baby boomer interns and 5 interns with disabilities. This year, GH introduced a separate internship program specifically for individuals with severe disabilities for the first time.
