Full-Scale Expansion of Night and Weekend Childcare Services
Support for Dual-Income and Single-Parent Families
Broader Family Experience Events and Parent Education
Wando County in South Jeolla Province announced on the 8th that it has been selected for the '2026 Local Revitalization Project for Shared Childcare Centers,' organized by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and has secured 60 million won in national funding.
This project aims to spread a community-based childcare culture and address gaps in local childcare support, focusing on island and rural fishing villages where childcare infrastructure is relatively lacking compared to the metropolitan area.
With this selection, the county plans to significantly expand night and weekend operations of shared childcare centers to support families facing childcare gaps, such as dual-income and single-parent households.
The county will use national and local government funds to gradually implement regular night and weekend operations, expand parent-child family experience events, provide customized parent education and counseling, and activate community-based childcare support.
A county official stated, "Being selected for this project is an important stepping stone toward making Wando a great place to raise children," adding, "We will build a safe childcare environment that residents can truly feel and continue to promote a sustainable family community culture."
