Fire Breaks Out at Night in Geochang House ... Furnace Embers Suspected as Cause

View original imageAt around 3:23 a.m. on September 8, a fire broke out at a house in Goje-myeon, Geochang County, South Gyeongsang Province.
The fire caused an estimated 200 million won in property damage, including the complete destruction of the main building of the house, which measured 115.5 square meters, according to the fire department.
There were no casualties, as the resident was outside the house at the time of the fire.
Upon receiving the report, the fire authorities dispatched 40 personnel and 17 pieces of equipment to the scene and extinguished the fire by around 5:31 a.m.
The resident reportedly stated, "I lit a fire in the furnace on the afternoon of the 6th and then left the house the following morning."

Based on the resident's statement, police and fire authorities believe that embers from the furnace may have spread to nearby wood. They are conducting a joint on-site investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
