According to Yonhap News on September 7, a report was filed with the Anyang Dongan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province at around 1:24 a.m. on June 24, stating, "An acquaintance sent a message implying suicide and then turned off their mobile phone."

Police were dispatched to the location indicated by the signal from Mr. A's mobile phone and found Mr. A at home with his family. They determined that there was no immediate danger and withdrew from the scene.

However, the family soon reported again that Mr. A had disappeared. In response, the police decided to use the "AI Movement Tracking System" to locate him. This system allows users to input a photo and description of the person they are searching for, along with the clothing they were last seen wearing, and designate a specific area. The AI then analyzes CCTV footage within that area to find the individual. The system is currently being piloted at several police stations nationwide, including Anyang Dongan Police Station.

Police entered a photo of Mr. A and details of his outfit at the time of disappearance-a gray T-shirt and black cropped pants-into the system and limited the search area to the vicinity of his residence so that the AI could analyze relevant CCTV footage.

As a result of the analysis, the system identified CCTV footage of Mr. A in a park near his home, and based on this information, police were able to locate him within three hours of the initial report.

This is reportedly the first case nationwide in which the AI Movement Tracking System has achieved such results.

Based on the results of this pilot program, the police are considering improvements and plans to expand the system’s implementation.
