Although the phone rang inside, there was no answer. Believing the elderly resident was resting, Kim left the kimchi at the door and departed.
Concerned for the senior’s well-being, Kim returned after work. When the same situation occurred, Kim immediately contacted the elderly resident’s child. The child visited and found the senior unable to move, prompting an emergency hospital transfer. Fortunately, the crisis was overcome and the senior is now in stable condition. The child expressed gratitude, saying, “If I had only waited for my father to call or simply left the delivery at the door, I might have missed the precious time needed to save him.” The careful observation and proactive communication of the welfare official saved a life.
The “Fresh Seasonal Kimchi” sharing event is a project by the Gongneung 1-dong Residents' Welfare Council, distributing lovingly prepared kimchi to vulnerable groups in the community. Kimchi was delivered to 53 households, including basic living support recipients, people with disabilities, and seniors, demonstrating neighborly love.
