Gwangju Office of Education Holds Naming Contest for Democracy History Exhibition Center
The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is holding a naming contest for the democracy exhibition and experience space currently under construction, tentatively called the ‘Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Democracy History Center.’
The History Center is being built as a two-story facility with a total floor area of 1,736 square meters within the Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall of the Office of Education, with the goal of opening in 2026. The Office of Education plans to operate the center so that students can explore the history of democracy from a student-centered perspective through exhibitions and hands-on experiences based on the history of education in Gwangju.
The naming contest will be held from the 8th to the 26th. All elementary, middle, and high school students in Gwangju, out-of-school youth, school staff, and Gwangju citizens are eligible to participate. Applicants can check the contest notice on the Office of Education website or refer to the posters distributed to schools, then download the application form attached to the announcement and submit it via email.
The Office of Education will select a total of six winners-three from the student category and three from the general category-and present awards in October. The top winner in each category will receive a 300,000 won culture gift certificate, while two runners-up in each category will receive a 100,000 won certificate. The top student winner will also receive a commendation from the Superintendent of Education. The winning entries will be revised and refined before being used as the official name of the History Center.
