Three Men Urgently Arrested for Attempted Abduction of Elementary Students in Seodaemun District... Arrest Warrants Sought for Two
A group attempting to abduct children near elementary schools in the Seodaemun District of Seoul has been apprehended by the police.
On September 4, the Seoul Seodaemun Police Station announced that they had urgently arrested three men in their twenties on charges of attempted abduction and enticement, and had requested arrest warrants for two of them.
The police began investigating after receiving reports of attempted abductions of elementary school students in the Seodaemun District starting on September 2. They tracked the suspects by following the vehicle used in the crime and apprehended them.
The suspects allegedly attempted to lure elementary school students near an elementary school in Seodaemun District around 3:30 p.m. on August 28, offering to "take them home" and making similar remarks, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
At the time, police said that after receiving the report, they checked nearby CCTV footage but could not confirm any connection to abduction or other crimes. The police explained that the vehicle reported by the victim’s mother differed in color and model from the actual vehicle used in the crime, which made it difficult to ascertain the facts at that time.
