Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry Holds 47th Park Mi Invitational Exhibition at Chamber Gallery
The Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gyeongnam held the 47th Invitational Exhibition featuring Park Mi at the Chamber Gallery on the first floor on September 3.
This exhibition, themed "My Landscape Painting, My Treasure Island," showcased the artistic world of artist Park Mi, who delicately expresses her vision using glass beads.
The works, which interpret the nature and emotions of Namhae through both sight and touch, offered visitors a unique artistic experience that goes beyond mere visual beauty, inviting them to retrace memories by following the textures of the senses.
Park Mi has been actively engaged in the art scene, holding 24 solo exhibitions and participating in over 300 group exhibitions both in Korea and abroad. After losing vision in one eye in her early twenties, she developed her own visual language, building a unique sculptural vocabulary based on her new perspective on the world.
The artist's primary technique is "glass bead painting," in which she uses tweezers to attach glass beads-each smaller than a grain of sand-one by one to form images. For the artist, glass beads become paint, and tweezers become her brush. Through this highly intricate process, Park Mi reimagines landscapes and emotions from memory, layering light, resonating colors, and arranging tactile dots.
This exhibition features a variety of works symbolizing the cycle of nature and vitality, including "Apple-Flavored Spinach," "Golden Anchovy," "Yuja," and "Pumpkin." Hidden in Braille on the base of every piece is the word "Treasure Island," a metaphor for the artist's journey of building up memories of her hometown Namhae like a treasure hunt, dot by dot.
