What efforts are leading scholars and companies around the world making for a "Sustainable Bio economy," and what policies are governments worldwide implementing?
The "KSBB-AFOB Conference 2025," co-hosted by the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (KSBB) and the Asian Confederation of Biotechnology (ACB2025), and supported by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies and Incheon Tourism Organization, will be held at the Grand Hyatt Incheon from September 23 to 27.
This academic conference, held under the theme "Frontiers in Bio manufacturing: Shaping a Sustainable Bio economy," is expected to bring together about 3,000 biotechnology (BT) experts from industry, academia, research institutes, and government across more than 40 countries.
Tobias Erb, professor at the Max Planck Institute in Germany, will present research on "Carbon Fixation and Sustainable Catalyst Development through Synthetic Biological Approaches," while Zhang Xian'en, professor at the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology in China, will discuss "Next-Generation Biosensor Technologies for Revolutionizing Precision Diagnostics and Environmental Monitoring."
James Collins, professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Lee Sangyeop, professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and Emily Leproust, CEO of Twist Bioscience in the United States, will give lectures on the advancement of synthetic biology and strategies for a sustainable bio economy.
In addition, world-renowned scholars such as David Winickoff, Senior Policy Analyst at the Science, Technology and Innovation Directorate of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD); Martin Fussenegger, professor at ETH Zurich; Hiroshi Shizumi, professor at Osaka University in Japan; and Dietard Mattanovich, professor at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) in Austria, have been invited as speakers.
Top domestic and international experts will also explore the potential for next-generation therapeutic development, the latest research trends in synthetic biology and biofoundries, and the future of sustainable bio manufacturing.
