In its statement, the Medical School Special Committee evaluated the government's confirmation of the national agenda as a historic achievement, officially recognizing the necessity of establishing a medical school in Jeollanam-do. The committee described it as the fruition of the longstanding aspirations of 1.8 million Jeollanam-do residents who have suffered from inadequate medical coverage.
The committee also stated, "The agreement to integrate the two universities on November 15 last year marked significant progress toward establishing a medical school, but declarations and agreements alone are not sufficient." The committee emphasized that "finalizing the university's name must precede the application for establishment under the name of the integrated university, as required by the Ministry of Education."
Regarding the significance of the naming contest, the committee explained, "The name of the integrated university is not merely a title; it is a symbol that establishes the identity of the Jeollanam-do National Medical School and unites the will of the residents." The committee added, "It should be the name of the cradle that will nurture the future medical professionals of Jeollanam-do and embody the determination to address healthcare inequality."
The committee further stressed, "Just as it is said that names shape consciousness, finalizing the university's name will serve as a decisive catalyst for uniting the residents and accelerating the process of establishing the medical school."
In particular, the committee urged, "As responsible parties who have agreed to the integration, National Mokpo University and National Suncheon University must promptly initiate the naming contest, and Jeollanam-do must quickly establish procedures that enable resident participation to build consensus."

The committee once again emphasized, "Jeollanam-do and both universities must immediately move forward with the naming contest in a unified manner."
