Comprehensive FMD Vaccination Campaign Launched
Jindo County Targets Nearly 46,000 Animals to Prevent Outbreaks
Enhanced Monitoring and Strict Antibody Management in Place
Jindo County in South Jeolla Province will conduct a comprehensive foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccination campaign in the second half of the year to prevent outbreaks in advance and protect livestock farmers from potential damage.
According to the county on September 1, this round of vaccinations will target a total of 45,968 animals, including cattle, goats, and pigs. Small-scale farms will receive vaccination support from veterinarians, while commercial-scale farms will carry out self-vaccination.
Vaccinations administered by veterinarians will be conducted until September 30, and self-vaccinations will take place from September 15 to 28.
However, the following will be excluded from this round of vaccinations: animals that have not yet passed four weeks since their last vaccination, animals in the late stages of pregnancy, and farms that have applied for a mass vaccination deferral.
To enhance the effectiveness of the campaign, the county will conduct antibody titer tests after vaccination. Farms with antibody positivity rates below the required threshold will be fined, and the county will manage antibody formation rates through additional vaccinations and retesting.
During the vaccination period, dedicated officials will be present on-site to provide thorough guidance and inspections. The county will also intensify monitoring, especially for vulnerable farms, making every effort to ensure the success of the campaign.
