HD Hyundai Opens Warship Technology Sites to Naval Academy Cadets

Held at Shipyard for the First Time
HD Hyundai announced on the 29th that cadets from the Naval Academy visited the Ulsan headquarters of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and the Pangyo Global R&D Center (GRC) to tour the shipbuilding and marine industry sites.
This visit was conducted as part of the Naval Academy's "On-site Experiential Self-Directed Competency Enhancement Learning Program," which took place over three days from the 25th to the 27th. This is the first time that a regular Naval Academy curriculum has been held at a shipyard site. Eighteen cadets participated by using their summer vacation.

View original imageOn the first day, the cadets visited Ulsan HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, where they were briefed on the status of warship development at the Special Ship Business Division. They also inspected a Philippine offshore patrol vessel and a next-generation Aegis destroyer under construction in the dock. Later, at the Pangyo GRC, special lectures and seminars were held on topics such as electric propulsion systems for warships, special performance design, AI solutions for manned and unmanned vessels, and digital twin-based construction technologies.

In particular, the AI solutions for manned and unmanned vessels, which are related to the unmanned surface vehicle project currently being pursued by the Navy, reportedly drew significant interest from the cadets. An HD Hyundai official stated, "We hope this will be an opportunity for the cadets to feel pride in Korea's warship technology," adding, "We will do our utmost to strengthen the Republic of Korea's maritime security capabilities."
