Gwangyang City Requests National Funding Support for Repair Work on Gwangyang Port Hinterland Roads

On August 28, Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province announced that on the 26th, Vice Mayor Kim Jungwan met with the Director of the Yeosu Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office to request national funding support for the repair work on the eastern and western hinterland roads of Gwangyang Port.
This project involves repair work on 42 road structures, including bridges, along an 11.4-kilometer section of the eastern and western hinterland roads of Gwangyang Port. The amount of national funding requested is 9.8 billion won.

Meanwhile, the eastern hinterland road of Gwangyang Port was completed by the Yeosu Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office in December 1998, and the western hinterland road in November 2010. Each was transferred to Gwangyang City through agreements in December 2002 and February 2012, respectively. At the time, the agreements included provisions stating that even after completion, the national government would provide funding for road repairs and reinforcement as needed.
