The Busan National University Climate Change Response Environmental Health Center has begun seeking solutions to protect cities and public health in the era of climate crisis.
Busan National University (President Choi Jaewon) announced on August 28 that its Climate Change Response Environmental Health Center (Director Lee Hwanhee, Professor at the Department of Biomedical Convergence Engineering) recently co-hosted a 'Climate Change and Cities, Urban Policy, Smart Health City Seminar and Roundtable' and a 'Climate Change Response and Environmental Health Education Seminar' at Seoul National University School of Public Health, together with the Seoul Environmental Health Center.

View original imageThis event was organized to address environmental and health issues caused by climate change and to discuss sustainable urban policies and health management strategies that incorporate smart technologies.
At the 'Climate Change and Cities, Urban Policy, Smart Health City Seminar and Roundtable' held on August 26, participants discussed the role of urban policy and environmental health centers under the theme of 'Smart Health City Strategies in the Era of Climate Change.' Presentations included: Smart Healthy Cities (Hong Yuncheol, Director of Seoul Environmental Health Center); Assessing Climate Justice in Urban Climate Change Response (Ha Mina, Professor at Dankook University); Overview and Results of Climate Health Assessment (Kwon Hojang, Professor at Dankook University); and Climate Change Adaptation and Urban Engineering/Urban Policy (Dong Ahyun, PhD, Busan National University).
During the subsequent roundtable, experts sought practical measures to strengthen the implementation of Seoul's climate change adaptation and smart city policies.
Previously, at the 'Climate Change Response and Environmental Health Education Seminar' held on August 25, various topics were discussed, including strengthening the response capacity of environmentally vulnerable groups, expanding cooperative programs between centers, sharing climate action cases by the younger generation, and presenting research outcomes on climate and health. The event was attended by environmental health center officials, the Korea Climate and Environment Network, university climate clubs (UNAI Aspire), and young environmental activists.

Director Lee Hwanhee stated, "Climate change is a critical issue directly linked to urban policy and public health," adding, "Through a series of seminars and roundtables, we have created a meaningful opportunity to seek effective policy directions and technological solutions, and for various stakeholders to jointly develop climate health education and response strategies."
