Since its establishment in 2008, the foundation has provided more than 10.8 billion won in cumulative scholarships to 2,745 students from 44 countries. Stephanie Arguezo Gaona from Colombia, who was selected as a representative scholarship recipient, shared her thoughts: "On the 75th anniversary of the Korean War, I am deeply moved to see that the sacrifices made have led to Korea's remarkable development. I will strive to serve as a bridge between our two countries."
Chairman Lee Joonggeun stated, "Today's Republic of Korea was made possible by the noble sacrifices of the veterans," adding, "I hope that these scholarships will serve as a foundation connecting the students' home countries with Korea, and the present with the future." The event was made even more meaningful by the participation of students from countries that sent troops during the war, including Colombia, Ethiopia, T?rkiye, and Myanmar.
'UN Day,' as proposed by Chairman Lee, was established to commemorate the founding of the United Nations on October 24, 1945, and was observed as a public holiday in Korea from 1950 to 1975. However, it was abolished in 1976 due to North Korea's admission to UN-affiliated organizations. He emphasized, "The Korean War was the first and only war after the founding of the United Nations in which multinational forces participated. As a country renowned for its courtesy, we must not forget the dedication of the UN forces and should re-designate UN Day as a public holiday."
