Gwangju City to Hold 'Policy Forum for Realizing a Self-Sufficient City of 500,000' on 30th Anniversary of Local Autonomy
Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on August 27 that it will hold the 'Policy Forum for Realizing a Self-Sufficient City of 500,000' on September 4 at 3:00 p.m. in the Suseojangdae Hall on the 10th floor of Gwangju City Hall to commemorate the 30th anniversary of elected local autonomy.

View original imageThis policy forum has been organized to reflect on the achievements of local autonomy over the past 30 years and to explore development strategies for realizing a self-sufficient city with a population of 500,000 in the future.
The event will be divided into two parts: a lecture in the first part and a commemorative ceremony in the second part.
In the first part, Ko Kyunghoon, a research fellow at the Korea Research Institute for Local Administration, will give a lecture on the significance of 30 years of elected local autonomy, offering insights into the values and future direction of local governance.
The second part will begin with a commemorative performance by the Gwangju City Gwangjiwon Nongak Troupe, followed by a commemorative address and a video celebrating the 30th anniversary of local autonomy. Experts from various fields will participate to present their visions for realizing a self-sufficient city of 500,000.
The forum will feature in-depth discussions with experts including Hyun Yu-na, associate research fellow in the field of regulation (Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements); Lee Jaehee, Ph.D., in the field of population (Korea Institute of Child Care and Education); Jeon Eui-chan, professor in the field of sustainability (Sejong University); Seo Chungwon, professor in the field of urban planning (Gwangju City Urban Planning Committee); and Kim Wonjin, Ph.D., in the field of road projects (Korea Association of Traffic Impact Assessment).
