Now in its fourth year, the ESG Innovation Policy Awards are held annually to discover public institutions and public enterprises that practice sustainable ESG management and to share and spread outstanding case studies.

BPA was honored with the award in recognition of its efforts to embed ESG throughout all areas of management-environmental, social, and governance-and to promote ESG management across the entire port logistics industry.

In particular, considering the characteristics of ports, where facilities such as cargo handling equipment and vessel arrivals and departures have significant impacts on greenhouse gas emissions and the marine environment, BPA has designated the eco-friendly transformation of Busan Port as a core task for sustainability and competitiveness, and has worked to achieve carbon neutrality.

Various environmental policies led to this award, including: establishing an environmental management system in line with international standards (ISO14001); creating an infrastructure to supply eco-friendly ship fuels such as LNG and methanol; expanding renewable energy generation facilities such as solar power; and developing fully automated terminals powered entirely by electricity.

Song Sangkeun, President of BPA, stated, "This award is a result of Busan Port’s consistent efforts to build an eco-friendly port being recognized externally," adding, "We will continue to strengthen sustainable management across all areas of ESG and further promote eco-friendly practices in the industry and local community."
