A seminar aimed at sharing trends in future promising industries such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and the global nuclear energy market, as well as supporting the competitiveness of local companies, was held in Daejeon.

Daejeon Technopark (President Kim Wooyeon, hereafter referred to as Daejeon TP) hosted the Daejeon Nuclear Industry Corporate Competency Enhancement Seminar on the afternoon of August 26 at the D-Unicorn Lounge for local nuclear industry company representatives.

With around 50 executives and employees from companies supporting the Daejeon nuclear industry in attendance, the seminar featured a special lecture by Professor Lee Jeongik from the Department of Nuclear and Quantum Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) on the topic of "Global Nuclear Energy Market Trends and Prospects for the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Market," as well as a presentation by Dr. Shin Hyungil from the National Institute of Toxicological Research on "The Future in the Age of AI: Opportunities and Challenges."

Participants gained insights into the latest global nuclear technology trends and SMR market outlook through lectures and case presentations, and explored future industrial opportunities and challenges linked with AI.

During the subsequent local company introduction and technology exchange networking session, attending companies shared practical experiences and technical information, engaging in meaningful business exchanges to explore future collaboration opportunities.

Previously, Daejeon City, in line with the government’s nuclear industry promotion policy, has focused on fostering the local nuclear industry by allocating a budget of 600 million won this year through Daejeon TP to support a total of 16 projects, including prototype production, process improvement, domestic and overseas marketing, and technical consulting.

Kim Wooyeon, President of Daejeon TP, stated, "We will continue to strengthen communication and cooperation with local nuclear companies so that Daejeon can emerge as a central city for the nuclear industry," adding, "We will further accelerate our support for companies to foster the nuclear industry."
