Tommy Fleetwood (England) has finally done it.
On August 24 (local time), at East Lake Golf Club (par 70) in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, he claimed victory by three strokes (18-under-par 262) at the Tour Championship, the final event of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup Playoffs, with a total prize fund of 40 million dollars. This marks his first win in his 164th appearance on the PGA Tour. He took home the winner's prize of 10 million dollars.

View original imageWhile he has won seven times on the DP World Tour, Fleetwood has repeatedly fallen just short on the PGA Tour. In his previous 163 tournaments, he finished runner-up six times and placed in the top five on 30 occasions. He was often labeled with the unwelcome tag of being "the player who earned the most prize money without a win."
Fleetwood made some changes in the latter part of the season. He switched the shafts of his driver and mini driver, moving from the Fujikura Ventus Red Velocore+ 6X to the Fujikura Ventus Blue Velocore+ 6X. This shaft is stiffer at the tip and gradually becomes softer toward the butt end. He also changed his putter, switching from the TaylorMade TP Soto Truss TF prototype, which he helped design, to the TaylorMade Spider Tour Black.
Over the four days of this tournament, he averaged 300.20 yards off the tee (23rd place). He raised his fairway accuracy to 75% (tied for 4th), creating more birdie opportunities. He also led the field in strokes gained putting, with 8.148 strokes (1st place). Fleetwood said, "I'm happy to have my first win. I'm satisfied with my efforts to finally achieve it," adding, "I will continue to train to get even better. I will strive to become the best player."
