More than 100 participants attended the event, including Superintendent Im Taehee, key officials from the Provincial Office of Education, teachers, parents, and educational experts.
The program proceeded with designated discussions by field teachers and university professors, followed by a Q&A session with participants. During the designated discussions, presentations were made on improvement measures for performance assessment from the field’s perspective, including: ▲Performance Assessment as Another Window to Understand Students (Teacher Yoon Seunghye, Euigoh High School), ▲Discussing Performance Assessment Integrated with Teaching (Senior Teacher Cha Yuhwa, Chidong High School), ▲Assessment: Asking with Autonomy, Answering with Responsibility (Principal Kim Hyunseok, Pogok High School), ▲Performance Assessment from a University Perspective (Admissions Officer Lee Jaewon, Dongguk University), and ▲Performance Assessment Restoring the Essence of Education (Professor Jeon Kyunghee, Kangnam University).
Senior Teacher Cha Yuhwa emphasized the need to move toward student growth-centered assessment by utilizing assessment structures that occur naturally within classes and feedback based on artificial intelligence (AI). Principal Kim Hyunseok (Pogok High School) suggested that improvements to performance assessment are needed through clarifying assessment criteria, strengthening teachers’ expertise, and establishing joint assessment and AI support systems.
In the subsequent on-site discussion, Superintendent Im Taehee, the designated speakers, and participants freely discussed directions for improving performance assessment to foster students’ future competencies.
Superintendent Im Taehee stated, "To solve any problem, we need to consider whether it is a long-term or short-term issue, whether it is a systemic or partial issue, and whether there is balance or not," adding, "If we reflect on these points, even the fundamental problems facing our education sector can be solved."
He further emphasized, "Only when we have a clear goal regarding performance assessment can we also change the direction of issues such as college admissions, student records, and the high school credit system. Now is the time to provide a comprehensive solution by linking performance assessment and the high school credit system with the college admissions system."
Superintendent Im stressed that "performance assessment for student growth and the reform of the college admissions system for future readiness are essential for normalizing public education," and appealed, "I hope everyone will join forces so that we can transform our education system into one where our children grow up happier and more just."
