Yeongju Launches Township Relay for 'Four Major Cultural Movements to Overcome Low Birthrate Burden'
Spreading Citizen Participation in Everyday Life Movements
"A City Where It Is Good to Have and Raise Children"
Yeongju City is set to actively launch the township relay of the 'Four Major Cultural Movements to Overcome Low Birthrate Burden' in order to address the low birthrate crisis and create a sustainable local community.
The 'Four Major Cultural Movements to Overcome Low Birthrate Burden' is a key initiative of North Gyeongsang Province. Its core principles are: holding small weddings to reduce the financial burden of marriage; respecting diverse family structures for childbirth; prioritizing children and respecting parental leave for childcare; and promoting gender equality and work-life balance for work and daily life. The goal is to spread a family-friendly culture throughout the region by improving social awareness and establishing supportive systems.
This relay began with the monthly meeting of the Anjeong-myeon Residents' Autonomy Committee on August 19 and will continue in each town and township until the end of October. Residents, institutions, and organizations are participating by signing pledges and engaging in practical activities. In Pyeongeun-myeon, for example, banners have been installed at civil service counters to encourage everyday participation, reflecting a growing voluntary movement.
The city plans to establish this initiative as a daily campaign in which all citizens can participate, and to expand family-friendly programs in cooperation with the Yeongju City Family Center. In addition, Yeongju aims to accelerate the creation of a 'city where it is good to have and raise children' by building a cooperative system between public institutions and private organizations.
