In particular, by linking with the University Innovation Support Project, students directly participated in the operation, adding significance as a "participatory ESG extracurricular program."
On-site activities included promoting everyday energy-saving practices such as maintaining indoor temperatures at 26°C, unplugging appliances, adopting a zero-waste lifestyle, using public transportation, and conserving water. In addition, a citizen signature campaign and the "Energy Saving Pledge Tree" program were conducted. Citizens actively participated by writing their own "small promises for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050."
At 9 p.m., the "Shinhan Starlight Guardians Lights-Off Event" was held, where faculty, students, and citizens turned off their lights for five minutes and gazed at the starlight, sharing the message, "Turning off small lights creates a brighter future." One citizen remarked, "I was reminded once again that even small changes in habits can protect the environment," expressing a commitment to continued action.
Kwon Ogeun, Head of the ESG Innovation Team at Shinhan University, evaluated the campaign as having achieved the spread of a citizen-participatory energy-saving culture, contribution to greenhouse gas reduction, and the establishment of a collaborative model between the university, local government, and NGOs.
