Voice Phishing Prevention Education Using 'ixi-O' at Senior Welfare Centers Nationwide
On August 25, LG Uplus announced that it has signed an agreement with the Korea Senior Welfare Center Association to provide voice phishing and smishing prevention education for seniors.
This agreement was established to provide relevant education so that senior customers, who are particularly vulnerable to voice phishing, can recognize and prevent risks on their own. According to the National Police Agency, there were a total of 12,339 voice phishing victims in the first half of this year, of which 3,800 (30.8%) were aged 60 or older.

The association, which has over 350 senior welfare centers as members, provides welfare services such as leisure, education, counseling, and care for people aged 60 and above. Approximately 3 million senior members are registered with the association.
The voice phishing prevention education will be carried out sequentially starting in September. LG Uplus will dispatch employees who have completed training on voice phishing and smishing to local senior welfare centers to provide hands-on, practical education. The Welfare Center Association will recruit participants and support on-site operations.
LG Uplus plans to utilize its artificial intelligence (AI) call app 'ixi-O' in the education program. Senior customers will be able to learn how to identify manipulated or forged voices through demonstrations and guidance on ixi-O's anti-deep voice feature, which uses AI technology. This will help them understand the methods used in voice phishing crimes and how to prevent them in advance. In addition, the program will include guidance on major voice phishing techniques and prevention tips, as well as one-on-one smartphone usage training.
Going forward, LG Uplus intends to further enhance the curriculum so that senior customers can learn practical response strategies that can be applied in their daily lives.
Cheol Jung, Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Sales Group at LG Uplus, stated, "Since voice phishing incidents frequently occur among the elderly, we decided to conduct this education to prevent damage and fulfill our social responsibility as a telecommunications company. We will continue to develop various programs to become a telecom provider truly committed to security."
