Yongin City to Launch GPR Survey in High-Risk Ground Subsidence Areas
Targeting 11 High-Risk Areas Including Sections with Aging Pipelines and Large-Scale Excavation Sites
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on August 25 that it will conduct a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) survey project in high-risk areas to prevent underground safety accidents such as ground subsidence.

The survey will target 11 locations with a high risk of accidents, including areas around subway stations, sections with aging underground pipelines, and large-scale excavation sites. The total survey distance is approximately 60 kilometers.
The city plans to establish criteria for selecting survey sections and annual plans to ensure systematic management, and will conduct inspections every year.
The city will also implement an "emergency ground survey." This involves promptly inspecting areas with sudden ground subsidence, road cracks, or frequent civil complaints, analyzing the causes, and taking immediate repair measures to prevent accidents.

In accordance with relevant laws, the city will also transition the ground surveys, which have been conducted by individual agencies every five years, to a city-led "integrated survey" system. Fourteen related organizations, including Korea Water Resources Corporation and Korea Electric Power Corporation, will participate in the integrated survey, share inspection results, and respond quickly.
