Pohang City will make an official visit to Austria from August 25 to 29 to promote the development of the hydrogen industry and strengthen its global cooperation network.
The delegation plans to visit major institutions and companies in Vienna and Graz, aiming to expand cooperation in the hydrogen fuel cell sector and discover joint business opportunities.
First, they will participate in 'EKC 2025,' hosted by the Association of Korean Scientists and Engineers in Austria, operating a Pohang City promotional booth in Vienna. The city intends to showcase its concentrated research infrastructure and key industries to European scientists and engineers, thereby expanding the foundation for international cooperation.
Next, the delegation will visit the Vienna University of Technology’s research institute to learn about the current status of advanced research, such as the development of biogas-based hydrogen separation processes. They will also tour state-of-the-art research facilities to explore directions for advancing Pohang's hydrogen technology.
On August 26, they will visit AVL headquarters to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) among Pohang City, Pohang Technopark, AVL, and AVL KOREA. At this meeting, practical cooperation measures for expanding the global hydrogen industry ecosystem will also be discussed.
On August 27 and 28, the delegation will visit HyCentA Research and RAG Energy Valley in succession to facilitate technology exchange for fuel cell certification centers, explore the potential use of turquoise hydrogen, and discuss ways to apply it in Pohang.
For the final schedule on August 29, they will visit the Stadler Rail AG branch to learn about the current status of hydrogen tram introduction and discuss strategies for integrating hydrogen trams into Pohang’s public transportation system, as well as solutions to anticipated challenges.
Through this visit to Austria, Pohang City plans to expand global cooperation in various fields, including hydrogen fuel cell R&D collaboration, turquoise hydrogen demonstration, and the introduction of eco-friendly transportation systems, laying the groundwork to become a leading city in the future hydrogen industry.
