View original imageWellness is a concept that combines wellbeing, happiness, and fitness, referring to a form of tourism that links healing, medical, and meditation activities with tourism facilities. Since the pandemic, it has attracted attention as a high value-added industry and has established itself as a future-oriented tourism content.
This certification project was promoted by Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization to discover and foster wellness tourism resources within the province and to designate leading tourist destinations with global competitiveness. After on-site evaluations and expert reviews, a total of 15 destinations were finally selected, with two locations from Yangju making the list.
Yangju City Museum of Art was highly rated for providing emotional healing and psychological stability through the appreciation and experience of artworks. The museum has become a 'healing and meditation themed' space by combining its beautiful scenery and the works of the two masters, Jang Wookjin and Min Bokjin, with wellness programs such as 'Looking Within', 'Complete Immersion', 'If You Listen Closely', and 'My Private Museum'.
Currently, the museum offers differentiated wellness programs that combine art appreciation and meditation, in-depth art experiences through the works of the two masters, and participatory, healing-focused programs. Going forward, the museum plans to strengthen its programs so that visitors can experience both inner peace and vitality through art.
Yukjijangsa Temple is well known among wellness tourists for its combination of templestay, mugwort moxibustion and heat therapy experiences, and customized fasting programs. Located at the foot of Dorisan Mountain in pristine natural surroundings, the temple offers templestay and oxygen breathing meditation programs, providing healing and relaxation of mind and body through traditional spiritual practices.
As a result of their selection, both institutions will receive various types of support from Gyeonggi Province, including facility-specific consulting, online and offline promotion and marketing assistance, development of products linked to online travel agencies (OTAs), opportunities to participate in the 'Gyeonggi Wellness Tourism Festa', and expert training and operational capacity building.
