According to Kyodo News and Nihon Keizai Shimbun on August 22, the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology of Japan held a press conference on the same day and announced that NVIDIA will participate in the development of the successor supercomputer.
NVIDIA will be responsible for GPUs specialized for high-speed artificial intelligence (AI) computing, while Fujitsu will handle the central processing units (CPUs).
The successor supercomputer, referred to as "Fugaku Next," is targeted to begin operation around 2030. Its simulation computing performance is planned to be five to ten times higher than that of the current Fugaku.
Matsuoka Satoshi, director of the institute's center, stated, "Together with Fujitsu and NVIDIA, we aim to design the world's best CPUs and GPUs for the AI era, develop Fugaku Next, and firmly establish our position as a leading AI nation."
