Chungnam Province to Invest 769.8 Billion Won in Flood Damage Restoration

Up to 120 Million Won in Support for Private Facilities
Chungnam Province will allocate a total of 769.8 billion won to restore damages caused by the record-breaking heavy rainfall that occurred from July 16 to 20.
In addition to simple restoration of damages, the province will also carry out river improvement and restoration projects to fundamentally prevent recurrence.
According to Chungnam Province on August 22, the total damage from this heavy rainfall was finalized at 252.2 billion won, with 179.1 billion won in public facility damages and 73.1 billion won in private facility damages.
Accordingly, the government has designated nine cities and counties-Cheonan, Gongju, Asan, Seosan, Dangjin, Buyeo, Cheongyang, Hongseong, and Yesan-as special disaster zones, along with two towns in Seocheon, Pangyo and Biin.
The restoration project budget for the flood damage consists of 527.5 billion won from the national government, 162.4 billion won from the provincial government, and 79.9 billion won from city and county governments.
In particular, the province has secured 293 billion won for improvement and restoration projects, including river widening and levee reconstruction, to significantly enhance disaster prevention capabilities.
The province will also expand support for private facilities. For homes that were completely destroyed, up to 120 million won will be provided, including government support funds, consolation payments, and special support funds from the province and local governments. For partially destroyed homes, about half of this amount will be covered.
For homes damaged by flooding, a total of 9.5 million won will be provided, and for small business owners whose business premises were flooded, up to 14 million won will be covered.
The province completed the payment of 23.2 billion won in special support funds on August 6, and the total amount of support for private facility restoration has reached 106.6 billion won.
Small-scale facilities are scheduled for completion within this year, mid-scale facilities will have their main processes completed before next year’s rainy season, and large-scale improvement and restoration projects are targeted for completion in the first half of 2028.

A provincial official stated, "We are making every effort to ensure prompt restoration and support for disaster victims to help them quickly return to their daily lives," adding, "We will mobilize all administrative resources, including psychological support."
