Police Refer Jegi-dong Multi-Family Arsonist Responsible for 15 Casualties to Prosecution in Custody
A man in his 30s who set fire to a multi-family residence in Jegi-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, causing 15 casualties, has been handed over to the prosecution.
On August 22, the Seoul Dongdaemun Police Station announced that Mr. A had been referred to the prosecution on charges including arson resulting in death or injury to an inhabited building.
Mr. A is suspected of setting fire to the parking lot of a multi-family residence in Jegi-dong at around 11:52 p.m. on August 12. As a result of the fire, one more victim who was receiving hospital treatment has died, bringing the total number of deaths to two, with 13 others injured.
The police arrested Mr. A in front of a commercial building in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on August 14, and applied for a detention warrant the following day.

The Seoul Northern District Court issued a detention warrant for Mr. A, citing concerns that he might flee.
