Trump Establishes Chief Design Officer to Improve Federal Government Aesthetics
President Donald Trump is establishing a dedicated team at the White House to improve the design of federal government buildings and websites.
On August 21 (local time), President Trump signed an executive order directing the creation of a National Design Studio within the White House Office of the President and the appointment of a Chief Design Officer (CDO).
The National Design Studio will be responsible for enhancing the design of not only the federal government's physical spaces but also digital spaces such as websites, making them more beautiful and efficient.
President Trump instructed the heads of each government agency to implement design improvement policies in consultation with the Chief Design Officer and to present the first results by July 4, 2026.
According to Bloomberg News, citing sources, President Trump intends to appoint Joe Gebbia, co-founder of Airbnb, as the first Chief Design Officer.

Since taking office, President Trump has repeatedly stated his intention to improve the aesthetics of Washington, D.C., criticizing the capital for being untidy. He has also redecorated the White House according to his own tastes, painting various areas gold and adding golden decorations. Additionally, he is pursuing the construction of a banquet hall, citing a lack of space for large-scale events.
