This event was organized to express gratitude for the hard work of foreign seasonal workers who supported agricultural sites across Gokseong County for five months, and to wish them a safe return home.
Approximately 60 people attended the event, including County Governor Cho Sangrae, the chairman of the county council, the head of the Gokseong County branch of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, local cooperative presidents, and seasonal workers. The event included farewell speeches and commemorative photos. Afterwards, the workers were scheduled to move to Gimhae International Airport to complete their departure procedures and begin their journey home.
In his farewell address, County Governor Cho Sangrae said, "I am deeply grateful for the dedication and hard work of the seasonal workers who have been a great help to local farms suffering from labor shortages during the busy farming season. I hope that your valuable experiences in Gokseong will remain as good memories even after you return to your home country."
Meanwhile, since March of this year, Gokseong County has made every effort to resolve the labor shortage on farms by introducing a total of 60 foreign seasonal workers through three cooperatives: Gokseong Nonghyup, Seokgok Nonghyup, and Okgwa Nonghyup.
The workers participated in various agricultural tasks, including melon planting and the harvesting of potatoes and cherry tomatoes. As a result, farms facing labor shortages were able to secure a stable workforce.
Each cooperative assigned dedicated staff, including a center manager, and provided accommodations such as cooperative offices, experience villages, and pensions, ensuring that workers could live in stable conditions. This systematic operation led to increased satisfaction for both the farms and the workers.
The county is also preparing for the departure of 20 seasonal workers and one interpreter from Seokgok Nonghyup in early October. Going forward, the county plans to strengthen institutional support to address farm labor shortages and protect the rights and interests of foreign workers.
