Man in His 40s Arrested for Setting Fire to Two Parked Cars on the Street at Dawn
A man in his 40s was apprehended by police after setting fire to vehicles parked on the street during the early morning hours.
On August 21, Gwangju Nambu Police Station announced that they had detained a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, on suspicion of arson of a motor vehicle for setting fire to cars parked on the street. An investigation is underway.
Mr. A is suspected of using flammable materials to set fire to two cars parked on a road in Baegun-dong and Yangnim-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, at around 1 a.m. that day.
The fire was extinguished by firefighters who responded to the report, and there were no injuries. However, one vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire, while the other sustained soot damage.
After setting the fire and fleeing the scene, Mr. A was apprehended in Dong-gu, Gwangju, later that morning by police who tracked him using local closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
According to the police investigation, Mr. A had previously served a prison sentence for a similar offense and was released in April of this year.

The police are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident and plan to request an arrest warrant.
