Yongsan District Strengthens Continuous Safety Inspections of Demolition Sites
Intensive Inspections of 46 Sites to Continue Through Year-End
Yongsan District in Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) will conduct continuous safety inspections of demolition sites in the area from this month until the end of the year. This measure is intended to proactively respond to the recent series of accidents related to demolition sites and to strengthen safety management.
The inspections will target sites with demolition permits or notifications. Sites with permits will be inspected regularly within 10 days, and those with notifications within 7 days. According to the district, in the third quarter of this year, a total of 46 sites-26 with permits and 20 with notifications-are expected to be subject to inspection.
To ensure effective inspections, the district will operate a joint public-private inspection team that includes district officials and external experts from the Seoul City Building Safety Advisory Group. If necessary, members of the district review committee and experts from the Building Safety Center will also be involved.
Key inspection items include the appropriateness of demolition-related permits and contracts, safety measures, the external condition of temporary structures, and whether safety is ensured according to the structural safety plan. As for surrounding safety measures, the team will check road conditions during the removal of construction waste and measures to prevent damage to nearby areas. In the structural safety inspection, special attention will be paid to whether demolition debris is left on slabs and the adequacy of measures to prevent heavy equipment from overturning on debris.
If, during the inspection, construction is found to be proceeding differently from the demolition plan or if deficiencies in safety management are identified, the district will take administrative action in accordance with the law. Minor issues will be guided for immediate correction.
