Four Themed Halls Highlighting Inclusive Approaches
Embracing Climate Change, Human Rights, and Cultural Diversity
The 2025 Gwangju Design Biennale will be held at the Gwangju Biennale Exhibition Hall for 65 days, from August 30 to November 2.
This year’s exhibition is themed “Inclusive Design,” with the title “The World That Is You: How Does Design Embrace Humanity?” It goes beyond simple aesthetic appreciation to shed light on the essential value of design that respects and embraces human diversity.
This event, overseen by Professor Choi Sooshin, a leading industrial designer in Korea, consists of four themed halls. Through the World Hall, Life Hall, Mobility Hall, and Future Hall, visitors can explore innovative examples of inclusive design from 429 designers and 84 organizations across 19 countries.
Noteworthy exhibition halls include the World Hall, which encompasses climate change, human rights, and cultural diversity, and the Future Hall, which showcases innovative solutions for future societies. A wide range of works will be displayed, from rollators and wearable robots to AI-based customized assistive devices.
Side events include an international symposium and the “72-Hour Inclusive Design Challenge,” as well as the presentation of results from the Inclusive Design Project at Gwangju Songjeong Station. In particular, the New Normal Playground Hall will feature an integrated playground experience space that transcends age and gender, drawing much attention.
The opening ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on August 29 at the special outdoor stage in the Gwangju Biennale Plaza, featuring a variety of performances that convey the message of inclusive design.
