A New Film Festival Brings Together Residents and Visitors on Heuksando
The 1st Heuksan Island Film Festival, held on Heuksando in Sinan County, South Jeolla Province, successfully concluded over two days from August 15 in the Sari area of Heuksando.
This year’s festival became a special venue to share the charm of Heuksando through film, with over 250 participants including local residents, campers, bloggers, and influencers from across the country.
The festival featured a variety of programs, starting with the opening ceremony, followed by the Heuksan Island Video Contest awards, local resident performances, a Heuksando Skate Fish Dismantling Show, conversations between filmmakers and audiences, and screenings of invited works.
In particular, the documentary "Heuksando: Black Sea and Its People" (directed by Ma Ho-young and Kim Tae-min), which sincerely captured the lives of Heuksando residents, won the grand prize and received enthusiastic applause.
The invited documentary "Pasi" (co-directed by Kang Je-yoon and Choi Hyun-jung), which was screened at the festival, reconstructed the past itinerant maritime market of Heuksando, depicting the vanished scenes of the port and vivid testimonies of fishermen. Residents watching the film were deeply moved, with many brought to tears.
In addition, a variety of side events heightened the festive atmosphere, including a harmonica performance of "Thinking of Brother" by 90-year-old war veteran Yoo Jun-yeol, a Heuksando Skate Fish Dismantling Show by Jung Tae-yeon and Jo Ah-hong, Heuksan Island trekking, and a "Sari Sandai" performance.
