Supreme Court Grants Bail to Kim Yong, Former Democratic Research Institute Deputy Director and Close Aide to President Lee
Residence Restrictions and 50 Million Won Deposit Set as Bail Conditions
The Supreme Court has granted bail to Kim Yong, former deputy director of the Democratic Research Institute and a close aide to President Lee Jaemyung.

View original imageThe First Division of the Supreme Court (Presiding Justice Seo Kyunghwan) on August 19 accepted the bail request of former deputy director Kim, who was indicted on charges of violating the Political Funds Act and bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
The bail conditions include restrictions on residence and a deposit of 50 million won. Kim must also appear at the designated time and place when summoned by the court, must not attempt to flee or destroy evidence, and must obtain court approval for any travel exceeding three days or for leaving the country.
This is the third time Kim's request for bail has been granted. Previously, Kim was released on bail in May 2023 during his first trial, but his bail was revoked and he was taken into custody in November 2023 after being sentenced to five years in prison. During his appeal, he was granted bail again and released, but was once more detained in February after receiving another five-year prison sentence. Kim subsequently filed for bail with the Supreme Court in April.

Kim is on trial for allegedly conspiring with Yoo Donggyu, former head of planning at Seongnam Development Corporation, and attorney Jung Minyong to receive a total of 847 million won in four installments from private businessman Nam Wook between April and August 2021, purportedly as funds for the Democratic Party's presidential primary. He is also accused of receiving a total of 190 million won in bribes from Yoo on four occasions while serving as a standing member of the Urban Construction Committee of the Seongnam City Council from February 2013 to April 2014.
