Korean Bar Association to Hold "Local Election Academy" on August 19

The Korean Bar Association announced on August 18 that it will hold a "Local Election Academy" for lawyers interested in participating in political activities such as local elections.
The Local Election Academy, which consists of six sessions, will be held every Tuesday at 7 p.m. from August 19 to September 30 in the seminar room on the first basement level of the Korean Bar Association building. To provide practical assistance to lawyers interested in the 9th Nationwide Local Elections scheduled for June next year, the association has invited current members of the National Assembly, city council members, and experts who previously served as legislative aides as instructors.
The first lecture, on August 19, will be given by National Assembly member Jang Kyungtae (Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea). On August 26, Shim Daecheol, legislative aide (Hwang Unha, Rebuilding Korea Party, and a lawyer), will give a lecture. On September 2, National Assembly member Kang Seungkyu (Chairman of the South Chungcheong Provincial Chapter of the People Power Party) will lecture. On September 16, Kim Jungtae, standing auditor at Chungbuk National University Hospital and former legislative aide, will speak. On September 23, Park Subin, Seoul Metropolitan Council member (Democratic Party of Korea, lawyer), will lecture. On September 30, Kwak Hyanggi, Seoul Metropolitan Council member (People Power Party, lawyer), will conclude the series.

A representative of the Korean Bar Association stated, "Through this academy, we expect that lawyers interested in political activities such as local elections will acquire fundamental knowledge and strengthen their expertise in various fields, including politics, legislation, and local budget review. We also anticipate that, through broad exchanges with politicians from both ruling and opposition parties as well as local council members with legal backgrounds, participants will enhance their practical capabilities in real-world politics."
