City Councilor Won Juyeong and Provincial Assembly Member Kyungja Jeong to Build Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Tower in Namyangju
Foundation Laid to Honor Veterans Who Defended Freedom and Democracy
Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province has secured a special Gyeonggi Provincial adjustment grant of 475 million won to construct the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Tower in the Dasan-dong area.
According to the Namyangju City Council on August 14, City Councilor Won Juyeong (Dasan 1·2-dong, Yangjeong-dong) initiated the project to build the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Tower in response to a proposal from the Namyangju Chapter of the Korea Vietnam War Veterans Association. The project aims to enhance respect for national merit recipients and their families, and to promote a culture of honoring veterans. The initiative gained momentum through collaboration with Kyungja Jeong, a Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Member (People Power Party, Proportional Representation), which enabled the city to secure provincial funding for the project.
The Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Tower will be constructed near the Namyangju Southern Police Station (at 3073-1, Dasan-dong), with an approximate height of 5 meters. The memorial is expected to become a meaningful site that conveys the noble sacrifices and patriotic spirit of the veterans who devoted themselves to enhancing the nation’s prestige and defending freedom during the Vietnam War to future generations.
The memorial tower is intended to serve as a space where not only veterans and their families but also all citizens can come together to remember and honor patriotism. Through this initiative, the city plans to spread the values of love for the country and the spirit of sacrifice throughout civil society, and to establish a living educational venue that communicates the history and lessons of the war-which are gradually being forgotten-to youth and future generations.
