Gijang County in Busan Issues "Seizure Surrender Orders" for High-Value and Habitual Delinquent Vehicles, Launches Strong Collection Drive
Focusing on the 38th Tax Collection Task Force Team
Overdue Tax Collections Surge by 557% in the First Half of This Year
Gijang County (Governor Jeong Jongbok) announced on August 14 that it will launch a rigorous campaign to collect overdue local taxes by targeting vehicles seized due to tax delinquencies.
The targets are high-value and habitual delinquent taxpayers who owe more than 3 million won in local taxes. The county plans to proceed with "orders to surrender seized vehicles," leading up to the repossession and public auction of the vehicles.

Despite these efforts, the total amount of unpaid taxes has reached approximately 4 billion won. If a delinquent fails to comply with the surrender order, fines ranging from one to three instances may be imposed, with a maximum penalty of up to 10 million won.
However, for delinquent taxpayers facing livelihood difficulties, the county will also implement tailored collection measures, such as encouraging installment payments, to minimize the burden of payment.
Governor Jeong Jongbok emphasized, "We will continue to carry out fair and strong collection activities against high-value and habitual tax delinquents to prevent diligent taxpayers from feeling deprived. We are committed to establishing a tax culture where responsible taxpayers are respected by ensuring the soundness of local finances."
In January, Gijang County became the first basic local government in Busan to launch the "38th Tax Collection Task Force Team," focusing on resolving overdue taxes. In the first half of this year alone, the county collected 4.6 billion won in overdue taxes from high-value delinquents, marking a 557% increase compared to the same period last year.
