Busan Port Authority Advances to Finals in Safety, Health, and Security Category of International Association of Ports and Harbors Sustainable Awards
Disaster, Safety, and Health Integrated System
Recognized as a Leading Global Port Best Practice
Busan Port Authority (BPA), led by President Song Sanggeun, has advanced to the finals in the Safety, Health, and Security category of the 'Sustainable Awards (WPSP)' organized by the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) with its 'Disaster, Safety, and Health Integrated System' for Busan Port.
The International Association of Ports and Harbors holds the Sustainable Awards annually to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the port sector, selecting outstanding cases in six categories: climate, digitalization, environment, infrastructure, community engagement, and safety, health, and security.
This year, a total of 112 projects from around the world were submitted. After expert review, the top three projects in each category-18 projects in total-were selected as final candidates.
BPA has previously won awards in the Community Engagement category in 2019 and the Infrastructure category in 2023. The current finalist, the 'Disaster, Safety, and Health Integrated System,' has been internationally recognized for its comprehensive strategy covering everything from prevention to response and recovery, including features such as automatic smartphone locking, restricted access to hazardous areas, and disaster response simulations.
Song Sanggeun, President of BPA, stated, "Advancing to the finals is a testament to Busan Port's sustainable growth efforts being recognized on the international stage," adding, "I hope this opportunity, with the participation and support of the public, will further elevate Busan Port's global standing."
